'Westray'

"There's a bonny wee island far north of Orkney Isles,
That sits in pride,
Wi all its fishermen and hardworking farms,
Keeping all your people safe and content.

When you come in the summer time the farmers
Are working hard,
You may be annoyed by getting stuck on the road,
But just think, when you go slow, there's plenty
To see if you care to look around,
So stop and see your puffin in the air.

We look after our cemeteries for you to see,
If any of your relations come from here,
This famous isle, so it be.

At the far end of the island there's a lonely looking lighthouse,
Don't be afraid to venture from the lighthouse,
Or mind the smell of the birds for they are beautiful to see,
But mind on it's a long drop to the cold bearing sea.
Watch out for the ghost on the wind,
He might just sneak up on you and
Break your door.

You may wonder why the people wave,
But just think, incomers you may be,
But to them you're good neighbours."
